Malaysia is a net exporter of refined petroleum products. In 2015, Malaysia exported $31.9 billion worth of refined petroleum products and imported $27.6 billion worth of refined petroleum products, resulting in a trade surplus of $4.3 billion for the country.

The majority of Malaysia's refined petroleum product exports are shipped to other Asian countries, with Singapore, China, and Japan being the top destinations. Malaysia also exports significant amounts of refined petroleum products to Europe and the United States.

Malaysia's refining capacity is currently at 2.2 million barrels per day. The country has four major refineries, which are all located in the southern state of Johor. The largest refinery is the Malaysian Refining Company (MRC), which has a capacity of 500,000 barrels per day.
