Seafood Companies in Malaysia

Seafood companies in Malaysia are responsible for the country's seafood production and export. The industry is worth an estimated RM 7 billion (US$ 2.16 billion) and employs over 300,000 people. Malaysia is the world's second largest exporter of shrimp after India, and is also a major exporter of fish, crabs and other seafood products.

The Malaysian seafood industry has been growing rapidly in recent years, due to strong demand from both domestic and international markets. The government has been supportive of the industry, and has implemented a number of initiatives to promote its growth. These include the establishment of a dedicated Seafood Industry Development Fund, and the introduction of tax incentives for seafood companies.

The vast majority of Malaysia's seafood companies are small-scale operations, with only a handful of large corporations. The top five companies in the industry are Malaysian, with the exception of Thai Union, the world's largest tuna processor, which has a significant presence in Malaysia.

The Malaysian seafood industry is facing a number of challenges, including declining fish stocks, illegal fishing, and environmental degradation. However, the sector remains strong and is expected to continue to grow in the years ahead.
