Aquisition Of Lands Companies in Malaysia

The Land Acquisition Act 1960 (LAA) is the Malaysian law governing the acquisition of land by the government for development purposes. The LAA provides for the procedure of compulsory acquisition and the payment of just compensation to the affected landowners.

The LAA is administered by the Ministry of Works (MOW). The MOW is responsible for the formulation of policy and legislation on land acquisition, as well as the coordination and implementation of land acquisition projects.

The MOW has delegated the power of compulsory acquisition to several government agencies, including the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), the Malaysian Railway Authority (MRA), the Malaysian Airport Authority (MAA), and the Malaysian Nuclear Power Corporation (MNPC).

These agencies are required to follow the procedures and guidelines set out in the LAA when acquiring land for their respective projects.

The LAA does not apply to the acquisition of land by private companies. Private companies may acquire land through negotiation with the landowners or through the purchase of land on the open market.
