Business Of Electrical Companies in Malaysia

Electricity in Malaysia is generated, transmitted and distributed by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the sole electric utility company in Malaysia. TNB is responsible for the generation of electricity from hydro, thermal and renewable sources of energy. The company also transmits and distributes electricity to end-users in Peninsular Malaysia through an extensive high-voltage grid.

Malaysia's electricity demand has been growing at an average rate of 6% per year over the past 10 years. In 2015, the country's electricity demand was 36,433 GWh. TNB has been investing heavily in expanding its generation and transmission capacities to meet this growing demand. As of 2015, TNB had a total generation capacity of 14,880 MW.

TNB is also the largest electricity retailer in Malaysia. The company sells electricity to end-users at regulated tariffs. TNB's retail tariffs are approved by the Malaysian Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).

The Malaysian government has been promoting the use of renewable energy sources to generate electricity. TNB has been investing in renewable energy projects, such as biomass and solar power plants. As of 2015, TNB had a total renewable energy generation capacity of 1,206 MW.
