Construction Of Railways And Subways Companies in Malaysia

The Malaysian government has been encouraging the development of railways and subways in the country as part of its national transport policy. Several companies have been set up to develop and operate these rail-based transportation systems.

The first company to be set up was Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), which operates the country's main railway network. KTMB was established in 1948 and currently operates over 2,700 km of railway lines.

Another company, Rapid Rail, was set up in 2004 to operate the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in the Klang Valley region. Rapid Rail currently operates three LRT lines with a total length of over 60 km.

The most recent company to be set up is My Rapid Transit (MRT) Corporation, which is responsible for the development and operation of the Kuala Lumpur MRT system. The MRT system is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by 2017.
