General trading and investment companies in Malaysia are involved in a wide range of activities including the import and export of goods, provision of services, and investment in a variety of sectors. These companies play an important role in the Malaysian economy by providing employment, generating tax revenue, and contributing to the country’s overall GDP.

The general trading and investment sector is a key driver of economic growth in Malaysia and is one of the country’s largest employers. In 2016, the sector employed over 1.6 million people, or 7.4% of the total workforce. The sector also contributed RM176.6 billion (US$42.5 billion) to Malaysia’s GDP in 2016, or 9.4% of the total.
