The Malaysian automotive industry is currently the third largest in Southeast Asia, and the 25th largest in the world. In terms of production, the industry produced over 610,000 vehicles in 2015, and is expected to produce over 700,000 vehicles by 2020. The industry is also a significant contributor to the Malaysian economy, contributing RM140 billion (US$35 billion) in 2015, or 4.5% of the country's GDP.

The Malaysian automotive industry is dominated by three multinational corporations (MNCs): Proton, Perodua and Honda Malaysia. Proton is the largest of the three, with a market share of 45.5% in 2015. Perodua is the second largest, with a market share of 39.5%. Honda Malaysia is the third largest, with a market share of 14%.

The industry is also supported by a number of local component manufacturers, including Bosch Malaysia, Denso Malaysia, and Yazaki Malaysia.

The Malaysian government has been supportive of the automotive industry, and has implemented a number of policies and incentives to attract foreign investment and promote the growth of the industry. The government has also been working to increase the localization content of vehicles produced in Malaysia, in order to increase the value-add
