Internet And E-commerce Companies in Malaysia

Internet and e-commerce companies in Malaysia have been growing rapidly in recent years, thanks to the country’s strong economic growth and increasing internet penetration.

According to a report by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the number of internet users in Malaysia grew from 18.1 million in 2012 to 24.5 million in 2016. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.6%.

Meanwhile, the total value of e-commerce transactions in Malaysia grew from RM5.4 billion (US$1.3 billion) in 2012 to RM30.1 billion (US$7.2 billion) in 2016, representing a CAGR of 36.5%.

The strong growth of internet and e-commerce companies in Malaysia is being driven by a number of factors, including the country’s rapidly expanding middle class, increasing smartphone and internet penetration, and improving logistics and payment infrastructure.

Looking forward, the MCMC report forecasts that the number of internet users in Malaysia will reach 30.1 million by 2020, while the value of e-commerce transactions is expected to grow to RM102.2 billion (US$24.6 billion). This represents a CAGR of
