There are two types of management services companies in Malaysia: private management services companies and public management services companies. Private management services companies are limited to managing only the affairs of their own group of companies, while public management services companies may provide management services to any company, whether or not it is part of their group.

Investment holding companies in Malaysia are either private or public companies. Private investment holding companies are limited to holding shares in companies which are part of their own group, while public investment holding companies may hold shares in any company.
