Mining is one of the oldest industries in Malaysia and copper mining is no exception. The country has a long history of mining copper, dating back to the pre-colonial era. There are currently four major copper mining companies in Malaysia, namely, Malaco Mining, Kumpulan Metal Berhad, Kencana Corporation Berhad and MMC Corporation Berhad.

Malaco Mining is the largest copper mining company in Malaysia, with a portfolio of four operating mines and two development projects. The company is majority-owned by Malaysian conglomerate, Genting Group.

Kumpulan Metal Berhad is the second largest copper mining company in Malaysia. The company is majority-owned by Malaysian state-owned investment company, Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

Kencana Corporation Berhad is the third largest copper mining company in Malaysia. The company is jointly-owned by Australian mining company, BHP Billiton and Malaysian state-owned investment company, Petronas.

MMC Corporation Berhad is the fourth largest copper mining company in Malaysia. The company is majority-owned by Malaysian state-owned investment company, Khazanah Nasional Berhad.
