Mining Of Other Non-ferrous Metal Ores   Companies in Malaysia

Mining is one of the key economic activities in Malaysia. Malaysia is endowed with over 33 different mineral types, comprising metallic, non-metallic and energy minerals. The estimated value of the total mineral resources in Malaysia is RM617 billion (as of 2013).

The country is the world’s largest producer of tin, palm oil and rubber. It is also the second-largest producer of feldspar and titanium.

Mining companies in Malaysia are also active in exploration and mining of other non-ferrous metals such as copper, bauxite, gold, iron ore and nickel.

In 2012, the Malaysian government launched the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) which aims to accelerate the country’s economic growth. One of the key initiatives under the ETP is the development of 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs), which includes the development of a strong and vibrant mining industry.

The Mining NKEA is expected to contribute RM80 billion to the economy and create more than 90,000 jobs by 2020. The government is also working on streamlining the regulatory framework for the mining industry to attract more investments.
