Of Aluminium From Alumina Companies in Malaysia

In Malaysia, alumina is extracted from bauxite ore through the process of open mining. The bauxite ore is then transported to alumina refineries where it is processed into alumina. Alumina is the main raw material used in the production of aluminium metal.

There are four alumina refineries in Malaysia, namely the Malaysian Aluminium Company (MALCO) in Terengganu, the Berjaya Aluminium Smelting Plant (BASP) in Johor, the Johor Aluminium Smelting Plant (JASP) in Pahang, and the Sarawak Aluminium Smelting Plant (SASP) in Sarawak.

MALCO is the largest alumina refinery in Malaysia with a capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per year. BASP and JASP each have a capacity of 0.5 million tonnes per year, while SASP has a capacity of 0.2 million tonnes per year.

In 2018, Malaysia produced a total of 2.4 million tonnes of alumina, of which 1.8 million tonnes were produced by MALCO, 0.5 million tonnes by BASP, 0.5 million tonnes by JASP,
