Operation Of Transmission Companies in Malaysia

The national electricity grid in Malaysia is operated by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the largest electricity utility in Malaysia. TNB is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to peninsular Malaysia, as well as the planning and development of the electricity sector.

The transmission network in Malaysia consists of high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) and extra high-voltage alternating current (EHVAC) transmission lines, with a total length of over 12,000 km. The HVAC lines have a voltage of 275 kV or 500 kV, while the EHVAC lines have a voltage of 800 kV.

The transmission network is connected to TNB's power plants, as well as to the power plants of independent power producers (IPPs). TNB also has interconnections with the power grids of Singapore and Thailand, which allows for the import and export of electricity.

TNB is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the transmission network, as well as for the dispatch of electricity. The dispatch of electricity is based on the real-time market price of electricity, and is managed by the Malaysian Electricity Supply Industry (MESI) - a subsidiary of TNB.
