Retailing And General Trading Companies in Malaysia

In Malaysia, there are two types of retailing and general trading companies:

1. those that are registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM); and
2. those that are not registered with SSM but are instead registered with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA).

The main difference between the two types of companies is that those registered with SSM are allowed to carry out business activities in Malaysia, while those registered with MDTCA are only allowed to carry out business activities within their own state.

Both types of companies are required to comply with the Business Licensing Act and the Trade Descriptions Act.

The Business Licensing Act requires all businesses in Malaysia to be licensed with the relevant authorities. The Trade Descriptions Act regulates the sale of goods and services in Malaysia.
