Timber Logging Companies in Malaysia

The Malaysian timber industry is a major contributor to the country’s economy, with the sector generating RM22 billion (US$6.9 billion) in revenue in 2016. The industry employs some 200,000 people, and is an important source of foreign exchange earnings.

Malaysia is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of tropical timber, with exports valued at RM16.4 billion (US$5.1 billion) in 2016. The country is the second largest exporter of tropical logs, behind only Indonesia, and the third largest exporter of tropical sawnwood.

The vast majority of Malaysia’s timber production is from natural forests, with only a small fraction coming from plantations. In 2016, total timber production was 22.9 million cubic metres, of which 18.7 million cubic metres came from natural forests and 4.2 million cubic metres came from plantations.
