KNM Group Berhad (KNM) is pleased to announce that KNM Process Systems Sdn Bhd (KNMPS), a wholly-owned subsidiary, received an award at the prestigious Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards 2003 on 12 September 2003 for Category 1 : Project Award, Sub Category Engineering, Medium Scale Project, from the Construction Industry Development Board, Malaysia (CIDB). The award was presented on 12 September 2003 at the Sunway Resort Hotel and is the latest of a long string of honours bestowed upon the KNM Group of Companies in the Groups 13-year history.
The award was conferred in recognition of KNMPS ability to design, manufacture and deliver 4 highly sophisticated mounded bullets with a contract value of RM40,940,529 from Toyo Engineering and Construction Sdn Bhd, a leading Japanese-based engineering company, for BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd, the owners Port Tank Farm facilities in Kuantan. Each mounded bullet has a capacity of 4,166 cubic metres and measured 8.5 metres x 76 metres in length. The mounded bullets earned KNMPS another entry in the Malaysia Book of Records in 2002 for the largest butane storage vessel in Malaysia and is one of the, if not already the, largest mounded bullets in the world.
In addition to the engineering feat that went into the design of the mounded bullets, KNMPS manufactured the bullets at the Groups Gebeng plant within a record time of 5 months. This was made possible by the deployment of the Groups various innovative manufacturing techniques using automatic welding, synchronised jacking system and state-of-the-art non-destructive testing method known as Time Of Flight Diffraction.
The award represents another endorsement of the KNM Groups local and worldwide reputation as a leading world-class international manufacturer of process equipment and a turnkey provider of storage facilities.
