Reference is made to the Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Ahmad Awang Adek Hussin response to questions posed by Senator Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, 15 May 2006 which were subsequently reported both in the New Straits Times and the Sun newspapers on 16 May 2006 (hereinafter collectively referred to as the Newspaper Articles) concerning the profitability of the Employees Provident Funds (the EPF) investments in government-linked companies in general and particularly, the EPFs investment in Malaysia Building Society Berhad (the Company).


In furtherance to the above, we wish to clarify several inaccuracies in the Newspaper Articles insofar as they relate to EPFs equity participation in the Company as well as the Companys financial performance within the last 2 years in the following manner:-

(a) That the Company is not a subsidiary of Elite;

(b) That the EPF has a direct 63.02% equity interest in the Company (as at 31 March 2006) and is therefore the Companys ultimate holding company; and

(c) That the Company had recorded profits for the financial years ended 2004 and 2005, and has further reported profit for the 1st quarter financial period ended 31 March 2006.
